What is Arimidex?
Arimidex or Anastrozole is an oral aromatase inhibitor that was initially developed for treating advanced breast cancer in women (for treating postmenopausal women with hormone receptor-positive early breast cancer). Soon after, it gained popularity as an effective antiestrogen and was hailed as the first in a class of 3rd generation selective oral aromatase inhibitors. It is also used as part of the treatment procedures concerned with testosterone replacement therapy for hypogonadal men
How is Arimidex used?
The active life of Arimidex is approximately 48 hours, and it can lead to reduced blood pressure when combined with aromatisable steroids. This antiestrogen blocks aromatase, the enzyme, and subsequently inhibits the production of estrogens in the body. Since formation of estrogen is one of the biggest concerns before professional sportsmen making use of harsh or aromatizable steroids, Arimidex is regarded as a “rescue drug”, to say the least. The results of this drug are dramatic, and a low dose of 1 mg per day is more than enough to reduce or eliminate estrogen formation, especially after the end of a steroid cycle.
Adverse effects
It is important to note that Arimidex abuse (absence or contravention to qualified medical advice) or use of low grade Arimidex could lead to side effects such as peripheral edema, dyspnea, bone pain, nausea, vomiting, and arthritis.
